The South Carolina Policy Council Board of Directors announces the selection of Michael Burris, a Charleston native, former business executive and Navy veteran, as the new Chief Executive Officer of the longstanding research organization.
“I am eager to advocate for and develop policies that make our state the best place to raise a family, start and operate a business, and receive a high-quality education,” Burris said. “My goal is to ensure that the government serves the people."
Burris brings 15 years of leadership experience in both the private and military sectors. Before joining SCPC, he was vice president of operations at Acme Marinas, a Charleston-based, real estate private equity firm. As a U.S. naval officer, he served seven years on active duty, deploying three times in the Global War on Terror.
In 2022, Burris was selected to participate in the Presidential Leadership Scholars program, where he learned from former U.S. presidents and cabinet officials.
Burris holds a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in real estate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from The Citadel. He lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife, Brooke, and their three children.
Founded in 1986 by Thomas Roe, SCPC is a Columbia-based, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the principles of limited government and individual liberties, free markets, and traditional South Carolina values.
