The South Carolina Policy Council is pleased to announce that Sam Aaron has be promoted to Research Director. In his new role, Sam will lead our research staff’s efforts to ensure that the SCPC is putting forth best-in-class materials to further promote our stated values.
As a native South Carolinian, with a deep-rooted passion for his state and its people, Sam has served admirably with the SCPC since 2022. In his prior role as an analyst, he has been instrumental in securing taxpayer victories on income tax and has authored several landmark reports, including Roadmap to Universal School Choice, How SC Can Tackle ESG, and a critical analysis of the state's plan to provide liquor liability insurance to small businesses through taxpayer funding.
Sam also manages our weekly email series, The Statehouse Update, and The Saturday Bulletin, which keeps South Carolinians informed on the issues that matter most. In addition to his research and writing, Sam oversees our intern program, email campaigns, research initiatives, and social media strategy.
Beyond his work at SCPC, Sam is a founding member of the Carolina Academic Leadership Network- a joint project empowering school board members in North and South Carolina with training and tools to serve students and districts, free from political toxicity, committed to academic excellence.
SCPC’s CEO Michael Burris said of this announcement “Sam is one of a kind in that he is incredibly smart, passionate, thoughtful, and deeply committed to SCPC’s values of limited government, individual liberties, free markets, and traditional South Carolina values. I am incredibly proud of and excited for this major step in his career.”
Sam holds a bachelor’s in political science from The University of South Carolina. He and his wife Lindsay, and their dog Indigo, reside in Sam’s hometown of Columbia.
